It has been 30 years since Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley passed away in Miami from cancer at age 36, and people around the world are celebrating his life and legacy in different ways throughout the year.

One of the biggest events will take place July 31 when artists—including son Ky-Mani Marley, Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul and Shaggy—will perform a tribute to Marley at London’s Wembley Arena during this year’s One Love Peace Festival.

In Angola’s capital city Luanda, musical group Ritmo e Cultura will honor the legend on Wednesday. In a statement to Angop, the group praised Marley’s support for Africa and said that “his acceptance by all cultures of the world is the signal of the realization of his dream: a world without borders, 'one love, one heart.'"

On Monday, hundreds of people gathered at New York’s Union Square for a Marley-themed “flash mob” (a spontaneous public performance by a group of people). Everyone danced to an exclusive track from Ziggy Marley’s upcoming album.

Earlier this year, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford declared the singer’s birthday, Feb. 6, Bob Marley Day.

Marley, a documentary film by Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald based on the singer’s life, will be previewed at the Cannes Film Festival this month.

Despite celebrations around the world, the Marley Foundation, which oversees his estate, says there are no planned events to mark his death anniversary, the AFP reports.
